Located in Lawson, MO, the Durbin Garden contains daylily cultivars that Sue has been growing for over twenty years. The daylily beds are situated in a quarter-acre, sun-filled, hillside garden sprinkled with young redbuds and flowering dogwoods. Grass paths between the beds make it easy to view and appreciate the over 200 named cultivars. Sue has been hybridizing for a few years, and her garden also includes hundreds of daylily seedlings that she is observing for consideration.
Asiatic and Oriental lilies, calla lilies, hostas, and iris collections, among many other annuals and perenials, have their place too, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. The perimeter fence birdhouses have been homes to bluebird families each year, and just south of the garden is a line of beautiful pin oaks with seating to enjoy the shade.
Creating this garden has been a lot of work, but Sue keeps getting inspired to add something new. She is looking forward to sharing what she has added for the next blooming season!
The Durbin Garden will also be host for daylily seedlings eligible for the Oscie Whatley award and a tribute garden containing Steven Stoll seedlings.
