Located in Lawson, MO, the McKinzie garden is situated on 80 acres of gently rolling hills. Ted has been gardening there for 26 years, and over that time the garden has evolved from mostly vegetable beds to almost exclusively flowers. Ted's passion for daylilies is recent. He has a few stands of unnamed older cultivars that look great in the landscape, but in the past couple of years has collected about 130 registered cultivars. These are scattered throughout his garden beds with other companion flowering plants. Ted currently has about four acres of yard and garden space with a wide variety of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.
Ted is gearing up to start a flower farm, and will begin selling flowers in 2027. When touring the McKinsie Garden, beds of dedicated annua and perennial flowers and rows of flower crops will provide a backdrop for the generous garden beds that will be on display.
